Who let the junk out?

Let me start by apologizing for that god-awful song reference. They just come to me and sometimes I don’t have the strength to ignore them.

This week we’ve been spending a ton of time at the house cleaning and de-junking. The day after closing we tackled the laundry room, the walk-in pantry, and the kitchen. We didn’t really have a method per se; we basically just removed everything from the cabinets, off the shelves, and then went to town with the cleaning. It was important to my OCD me to vacuum out all of the crusties from the kitchen drawers and cabinets, and that all of it was wiped down with antibacterial wipes. You never know what you’re going to find in there.

After everything was said and done we had two full bags of trash, two full bags of recycling, and two moving boxes full of randomness to donate to Goodwill. Here is a picture I snapped before we were finished rounding everything up, but you get the idea. Missing items from this picture: artificial ivy, the previous owners used bath mats, stacks of towels (Dirty? Clean? Who knows.), and a man’s terrycloth bathrobe.

We still have to clean out the bedrooms and bathrooms, but those don’t seem to have the clutter that the kitchen space had. After that clean sweep it’s starting to feel a lot more like home!
